The Glory of the Lord Leads Us on Our Journey

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

Sunday – Prayer from Jesus Christ’s High Priestly Prayer

 John 17:11-26

Holy Father, keep us in your name, whom you have given to Jesus Christ, your Son and our High Priest, that we may be one, even as you and He are one. While He was with His disciples, He kept them in your name, which you had given Him. He guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has come to you, and these things He spoke in the world, that we may have His joy fulfilled in us. He has given to us your word, and the world has hated us because we are not of the world, just as He is not of the world. We now pray, as our Lord prayed to you, do not take us out of the world, but keep us from the evil one. We are not of the world, just as He is not of the world. Sanctify us in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent Him into the world, so He has sent us into the world. And for our sake He did consecrate Himself, that we also may be sanctified in truth. We do not ask on behalf of ourselves only, but also for those who will believe in your Son through our word, that we may all be one, just as you, Father, are in your Son, and He in you, that we also may be in you, Father, and in your Son, so that the world may believe that you have sent Him. The glory that you have given Jesus Christ, He has given to us, that we  may be one even as you and He are one, He in us and you in He, that we may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent Him and love us even as you love Him. Father, we desire that we also, whom you have given your Son, may be with Him where He is, to see His glory that you have given Him because you have loved Him before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, He knows you, and we know that you have sent Him. He has made known to us, His people, your name, and He will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved Him may be in us, and He in us. We thank you, most holy and merciful Father, for hearing His prayer for us. Now as we pray according to His words, we are assured that you, Father, also hear us. Therefore, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we offer to you, our Father, by the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever; our praise and thanksgiving. Amen

As Was the Lord Himself, So Also Must Be Those Whom He has Called To Be His Disciples

Our Lord is the pattern for all preachers, and, with Him, prayer was the law of life. By it He lived. It was the inspiration of His toil, the source of His strength, the spring of His joy. With our Lord prayer was no sentimental episode, nor an afterthought, nor a pleasing, diverting prelude, nor an interlude, nor a parade or form. For Jesus, prayer was exacting, all-absorbing, paramount. It was the call of a sweet duty to Him, the satisfying of a restless yearning, the preparation for heavy responsibilities, and the meeting of a vigorous need. This being so, the disciple must be as his Lord, the servant as his Master. As was the Lord Himself, so also must be those whom He has called to be His disciples.

A Prayerless Preacher is a Misnomer

The thing far above all other things in the equipment of the preacher is prayer. Before everything else, he must be a man who makes a specialty of prayer. A prayerless preacher is a misnomer. He has either missed his calling, or has grievously failed God who called him into the ministry. God wants men who are not ignoramuses, who “study to show themselves approved.” Preaching the Word is essential; social qualities are not to be underestimated, and education is good; but under and above all else, prayer must be the main plank in the platform of the man who goes forth to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ to a lost and hungry world. The one weak spot in our Church institutions lies just here. Prayer is not regarded as being the primary factor in church life and activity, and other things, good in their places, are made primary. First things need to be put first, and the first thing in the equipment of a minister is prayer.

Be Merciful to Me, O God

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness! My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts— the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way, but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

That You May Know That I Am the Lord

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord .”

My Eye has Looked in Triumph on my Enemies

O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might. O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them. With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O Lord , for it is good. For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

Where Shall Wisdom be Found?

“But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living. The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’ It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price. It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire. Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; the price of wisdom is above pearls. The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold. “From where, then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living and concealed from the birds of the air. Abaddon and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’ “God understands the way to it, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When he gave to the wind its weight and apportioned the waters by measure, when he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder, then he saw it and declared it; he established it, and searched it out. And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
